SMBC: Internal Community Pilot Using SBT

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) conducted a Phase 1 pilot project as part of its business partnership in the SBT field, aiming to explore the real-world use of SBT and FT. The project tested technical feasibility, identified operational challenges, and examined how SBT and FT could help build internal communities. SMBC issued Employee ID SBTs to its staff and introduced a feature that allowed employees to send FT, known as “Midori-po,” to one another.
By issuing Employee ID SBTs, the project aimed to strengthen employees’ sense of belonging. A system was built that enabled SBT holders to send Midori-po to recognize contributions and express appreciation. Top FT holders received incentives, and the initiative was also used as part of internal evaluation. In addition, an SBT/FT-compatible wallet was introduced, providing employees with practical Web3 learning opportunities.
HashPort provided the infrastructure for issuing and managing SBT and FT, ensuring secure and smooth internal operations. From technical testing to operational design, HashPort supported the project end to end, verifying the practical potential of Web3 technology in the financial sector.
This initiative demonstrated that SBT and FT can go beyond digital certificates and help enhance internal communication and employee engagement within organizations.
